Nico Williams has decided to stay with Athletic Bilbao for another season, the player’s agent has confirmed.

The agents of Athletic Bilbao forward Nico Williams, Felix Tianta and Juan Hoyaga, told Cadena Ser on Thursday that the 22-year-old’s decision to stay with the Basque club was a personal one. 

Nico has been link with a move to Barcelona throughout the summer, with the player’s agent reportedly pushing for a move, before the 22-year-old decided to extend his stay at Athletic Bilbao for another season.

Nico Williams was Barcelona’s major transfer target last summer. The Catalans were said to be ready to pay the player’s €58m release clause, but the winger decided to stay at Athletic Club.

The 22-year-old says he doesn’t rule out leaving Bilbao in the future, noting that he is only convince about staying at the club for one more season.

The attacker was on fire last campaign, having recorded 24 goal contributions with Bilbao and scoring twice at the Euros.
